About the Role
A state government agency is seeking an experienced and proactive AO6 equivalent Safety Advisor to support project and contract managers in the delivery of major infrastructure projects across Queensland's South Coast Region. This role plays a crucial part in monitoring and advising on contractor safety performance, helping ensure safe project outcomes across one of the state's fastest-growing regions.
The successful candidate will provide frontline advisory support in contractor safety assurance, working closely with regional leadership, health and safety practitioners, and infrastructure delivery teams. The focus will be on projects where the agency acts as the client, ensuring that safety practices meet legislative and organisational standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with project teams and regional leadership to deliver consistent contractor safety assurance aligned with divisional WHS frameworks
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with safety professionals, contractors, and project stakeholders
- Provide expert advice on WHS legislation, standards, and best practices across infrastructure delivery projects
- Support implementation of Client-Side Safety Governance (CSSG), including analysis of safety reports and contractor performance data
- Assist in the review of incident reports and contractor investigations, ensuring continuous improvement and corrective action follow-up
- Lead and participate in workplace inspections, audits, and site visits to assess contractor safety management systems and risk controls
- Contribute to the development and delivery of safety training and awareness programs
- Identify and support initiatives that drive improvements in industry WHS capability and performance
Key Skills & Attributes
- Strong understanding of WHS legislation and safety assurance in a project delivery environment
- Demonstrated experience in contractor management, site auditing, or safety consultancy
- High-level communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively
- Proven analytical and problem-solving skills in a WHS or infrastructure context
- Ability to work autonomously while contributing to broader safety and delivery objectives
Desirable Experience
- Experience working on government or infrastructure projects
- Traffic management qualifications
- Familiarity with large-scale contractor environments and audit processes
Mandatory Requirements
- Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety (WHS)
- Current Class C driver's licence
- Criminal history screening prior to commencement
Eligibility Requirements
- Must have full working rights in Australia
